Zig around town with Zig App

zig app review

Zig is the latest lifestyle app to be launched in Singapore, and aims to take the boring out of our lives. Zig is the brainchild of Comfort Delgro, combining their taxi booking service with a whole host of other complementary services to form a lifestyle concierge, or what’s becoming popularly known as the super app.

Who’s boring? You’re boring.

We get this a lot. Singapore is such a boring place. There’s nothing to do (unless you’re rich). All we do is shop and eat! We’re so bored!!!!!!

I too, am often guilty of feeling like this. Even now.

Well, Zig aims to correct this perception, and wants to be the one-stop shop to delete boredom.

The Zig App

When you download zig, you’re asked to list down on your profile certain preferences, and over time, the app should start to recommend stuff you’re into, based on the inputs and usage habits. They are also working with partners like Klook and Chope to bring you the best deals (food and activities) in one location, so you can search, book a deal and a cab to get you there.

Cool. I really like their bold colours and cute aesthetics.

Their transport feature is not just to book cabs, but also gives you other options of getting to your location, with directions and instructions on which bus or train to take, if that’s your preferred mode of transport.

The Grab Comparison

Obviously, the comparisons to Grab will be coming. Both Grab and Zig have partnered with Klook to bring you activities around your area, so it seems like the big winner here is Klook, but beyond that, Grab definitely takes the prize for a feature-packed app, which is totally understandable, give they’ve been around for so long in the app game.

Groceries, Loans, Wallet, Investments, Cab and even holiday travel booking can be done via the app. They also have a regional presence, alongside Gojek, so that’s definitely another plus in that their addressable market is much larger.

Still early days in the super app evolution

That said, the super app evolution is still in its early days. It will be interesting to see how the various players evolve over time. Payments will be a large function in every super app’s arsenal, which is why Facebook is super keen on getting their currency and payment infrastructure up and running within the WhatsApp ecosystem. And just about any new company that comes out these days is a “revolutionary fintech” player.

Currently, Wechat seems to be leading on the superapp front, although their presence is mainly felt in China, while the wechat app for the rest of the world feels just a little limp, because their ecosystem is strongly tied within the country.

One thing’s for sure. There will be many apps for us in the future where we will be having $100 here and there. I just hope I don’t forget about any of them.

(I never knew I had $18 in my grabwallet till now, because I haven’t used grab for the longest time)

Kaching!
