New year, new job!

new year new job

So much has happened over the last week that a lot of it has just been a blur to be honest. Let’s take a moment to digest all of the things.

Lunar New Year of the Metal Ox

So we rang in the year of the metal ox on 23 February, 2021. It was not a usual lunar new year, as the world was still reeling and recovering from covid with varying levels of success. Restrictions were still in place, and in Singapore, that meant each household could only receive up to 8 visitors per day during the lunar new year period.

As our extended families were rather large, we opted this year, to almost entirely forgo visiting, except for immediate families like visiting my dad and my in-laws. This relieves us of the headache of planning for the logistics of working around the 8 person per day rule.

Which meant this lunar new year became a lot more of a quiet, almost rustic and peaceful affair. I actually rather enjoyed the sense of peace and quiet, and just having more quality moments with the kids and immediate family.

New job

Prior to ringing in the new year, I had an interview with a digital agency that was headed by a French couple. They were looking for someone to lead their media offering, and help drive media strategy and solutions for the agency.

We had a really great conversation and were largely aligned from a values perspective. They were looking for someone to join their team urgently, and I was immediately available, so that was another plus.

All in all, from interviews to job offer to starting date was less than a week! And now, I am once again gainfully employed member of society. Yay!

I have to say I’m really thankful to be working again, and being able to help the family out with expenses. In fact, as of this writing, I’ve been at work for 4 days now, and just furiously trying to absorb everything; the culture, the colleagues, the dynamics, as quickly as I can and start contributing to the team and the work.

Crypto welcomes the Bull year new ATHs

In other news… crypto just does not stop! Fears of a lunar new year dump did not materialise, as traders had speculated that chinese traders will use the lunar new year as an opportunity to take profits and give them out as “hong baos”.

Not only did that not happen, but over the last few days, we’re seeing new ATHs with Bitcoin breaching US$52,000 and ETH breaking US$1,950!

This makes me think we’re entering into a super cycle. This being the year of the Bull (Ox) just gives it an extra oomph to it. The first bitcoin ETF has also finally launched! Overall the market is just flush with positive news coverage around the entire crypto market.

I think price discovery this year will be a lot more incredible than most people think.
